City Bird
Nest

I can’t believe that Thanksgiving is less than a week away! And as soon as the clock strikes midnight next Thursday, it seems like Christmas totally takes over. Well, Christmas shopping seems to take over, while you can totally get some great deals with Black Friday and Cyber Monday. I personally like Small Business Saturday, which is a day celebrate and support small businesses in your community.

If you live near or around Detroit, here a few great local businesses to support on Saturday (really anytime). All of these stores are located in the Midtown area, actually, 4 out of the 5 are all on Canfield Street.

City Bird offers something for everyone! They have jewelry, clothing, cards, children’s toys and clothes, party supplies and so much more. It is a great shop to get something unique for anyone on your list since everything is made by independent artist and designers. Last time I stopped in I had to get the cutest Detroit shirt for myself :).

Nest is the sister store to City Bird and carries more household goods, including cooking tools, plants, pillows, blankets and kid’s toys. This store is great for someone on your list that loves to cook!

Shinola is a company that started in Detroit, selling watches, bikes, journals and more. They are ever expanding and going to start selling turntables soon. Shinola is a great place to get a very thoughtful, very nice gift from.

Filson features clothing, luggage and watches for the outdoors-man or woman. If you know someone who loves the outdoors, this would be a great store to stop by.

Will Leather Goods, while it has grown in size and has a few stores- it is still a family-owned business. Here you will find everything from purses, bags, wallets, kids backpacks, jewelry, dog collars and leashes, tech products and more. They also have a coffee shop, so you are able to recharge while shopping!
